Vox Pops: since the riotousness of the crowd is always very close to madness

I live near the city of Lincoln in the county of Lincolnshire. It’s a city that feels like it’s growing stronger and more confident in many ways – in particular its creativity. I decided to speak to some people that, in different ways, are a part of that creativity. I asked them all the same question. Nothing direct about what they do. I just asked them:

What do you dream of?

Just the literal sense of dreams - in sleep I dream the most bizarre Lynchian romps, but in terms of my dreams of what I want to accomplish, it’s just connecting all this art together and finding new…finding something that people don’t expect that they wanted. So rather than just creating the art that people want, creating what they didn’t realise they needed. But in terms of actual dreams? Just the weirdest little narratives.

For the future? It’s kind of the seriousness of the past. Like people caring about music like they did in the past, that’s what I dream of. A future where people treat music like they used to do, as something that was meaningful, part of their lives, that could help shape their lives. That’s what I dream of.

I’m far too busy to dream; I don’t often dream anymore. Once I go to bed I’m flat out fast asleep. My personal dreams and accomplishments? I’m able to say I have achieved a lot of in the last three or four years – at aged 29 I feel pretty chuffed that I’ve been able to do that, but as always there’s plenty more to come. I’m constantly dreaming of bigger and better things. This life I have at The Angel and this community that we’ve created and the team that we have here and the customers that we have; just for it to continuously grow, bigger and better really, for us to reach out to more people. To be able to do more for people. Angel forever! That’s the dream.

I dream of many things because there are many different levels of dreaming; dreams as in ideological dreams – in that case it would be peace and harmony and love and tranquility and prosperity for everyone. But then if I was thinking about daydreams I would be daydreaming more about myself. Or, actual dreams – I dream a lot of death. Apparently if you die in your dreams you die in reality but that’s a myth. I have died in my dreams many times and it doesn’t kill you at all. I mainly dream about waking up and being lucid. Sometimes I feel like I’m not quite awake, I’m just sort of daydreaming whether I like it or not and not really located in the real world all the time. I dream a lot about…falling asleep and then going into a really deep sleep and when I wake up I just open my eyes and I’m wide awake. To be awake all the time and focused.
